What the map counts

VegasBeers is a map of the breweries, brewpubs and draft rooms of the Las Vegas Valley. We count how the map is used, so we can make it better and tell the places on it how often they are seen. We do it without cookies and without knowing who you are.

Effective October 2026

What we record

While you use the map, the page sends us anonymous notes about the visit:

  • Which places appear on your screen, which ones you open, and for how long.
  • Which buttons you use in a listing, such as Website, Directions or Call.
  • The filters and districts you choose, and switches between Day and Night.
  • Your searches: how many places each one found. The words are kept only when a search finds nothing (see Searches).
  • Whether Near me found you. Never where you are (see Near me).
  • How you arrived: the page you landed on, the name of the site that linked here, and any campaign tags in the link.
  • Your type of device (phone, tablet or computer), its screen size and graphics chip maker, and your language.
  • How quickly the map loaded, how smoothly it ran, and any errors it ran into.
  • Your approximate location: country, state and city. Our host works this out from your network address when the notes arrive. The address itself is never stored.

Each visit gets a random code that exists only while the page is open. Reloading starts a new visit, so we count visits, not people.

What we don’t do

  • No cookies, no tracking across other sites, and no advertising.
  • We don’t store your IP address or the browser details your device sends.
  • We don’t sell this information. Apart from the services below that run the site, we share only totals with the places on the map, such as how many visits saw their listing.

Your browser keeps your Day or Night choice, and your last few searches and places so the search can offer them again (Clear in the search removes them). The page also looks for a note that marks our own staff, so our visits aren’t counted. None of this leaves your device.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the map records nothing about your visit.

When you search the map, we count the search, how many places it found, and the area of the map you had open, if you had picked one. If it found something, that’s all we keep: not the words.

  • When a search finds nothing, we keep the words you typed, so we can see which places are missing from the map and add them. Words that only name a filter, like “open late”, aren’t kept.
  • Before the words are stored, we change them to lower case and take out anything that looks like an email address, a link or a phone number, and any run of five or more digits, however they are typed (wide or other-script digits and hidden characters included). We keep at most 60 characters.
  • Like everything else here, a search belongs to an anonymous visit. It isn’t linked to you.

Near me

Near me asks your browser for your location, only when you turn it on. Your browser asks you first, and you can say no.

  • Your location stays in your browser. The page uses it there to sort places by distance and to show where you are on the map.
  • It is never sent to us and never stored. It is forgotten when you turn Near me off or leave the page.
  • We count only whether Near me found you, was blocked, or couldn’t find you.

To work out where you are, your browser may use its maker’s location service, which follows that company’s own privacy policy.

Reporting an issue

Each listing has a “Report an issue” form. It sends only what you give it: what’s wrong, any details you type, and your email address if you add one. The email is optional, and we use it only to follow up on that report.

Suggesting a place

The “Suggest a place” form sends only what you type: the place, where it is, what kind of place it is, a link, why it’s great, and whether you own or work there. If you came to it from a search, it also sends what you searched for, without any link in it. We keep it with the date you sent it.

  • You can suggest a place anonymously. Your name and email address are optional.
  • If you own or work at the place, we ask for your email, so we can reach you about the listing.
  • We use your email only to follow up on that suggestion. We never add you to a mailing list.
  • We remove contact details 12 months after we finish with a suggestion, or 24 months after you sent it if we haven’t finished by then. Suggestions we turn down are deleted after 24 months.
  • We may also get an email about a new suggestion, sent through Resend, with what you sent. That copy stays in our inbox and in Resend’s records after the details here are removed.
  • To stop floods of suggestions, we keep a tally of them for two days. It holds nothing about you.

To have a suggestion removed sooner, use the “Report an issue” form on any listing, choose “Something else”, and tell us the place you suggested and the email you used, if you gave one.

Who helps run the site

  • Vercel hosts the site. Like any web host, it handles your network address to deliver the pages.
  • Supabase stores the listings, the reports, the suggestions and the visit counts.
  • Resend sends us an email about each new suggestion.
  • Google Fonts serves the typeface, Archivo.
  • cdnjs (run by Cloudflare) serves three.js, the library that draws the 3D map.
  • Many of the map’s buildings come from OpenStreetMap data (© OpenStreetMap contributors). That data is built into the page, so your browser doesn’t contact OpenStreetMap.

Links in a listing, such as a place’s website, its Yelp page or directions, take you to other sites with their own privacy policies. A place’s Website link tells that site you came from VegasBeers.

How long we keep it

Detailed activity, including the words of searches that found nothing, is kept for up to 13 months. After that, only daily totals remain, such as how many visits saw a place on a given day. Your location from Near me is never kept at all.

Questions

Use the “Report an issue” form on any listing, choose “Something else”, and add your email if you’d like a reply. We don’t publish an email address. If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
